LORI SOUCIE

About Lori Soucie

Lori Soucie is a contemporary photographer from the Northeast. She creates unique images that are inspired by the beauty of nature. She first picked up a camera to document her perennial garden designs, but soon found that creating floral images became a priority.

In 2005, she had the good fortune to study with documentary photographer Jay Stock, who introduced her to the idea that photography could also be fine art. Jay’s floral images influenced her to develop her own abilities to create soft focus, painterly images. Several years later, she studied with John Paul Caponigro, a prolific photographer from Maine. She continues to be inspired by the work of Georgia O’Keeffe, her favorite artist.

Drawn to simple compositions, saturated colors, interesting textures, and subtle surrealistic imagery, Lori’s early work used more traditional photographic techniques such as multiple exposure (in-camera) and montage with slide film to achieve the desired effect. As technology changed, her process evolved. In her new work, she constructs the desired effects in post-production using Photoshop CC with digital techniques such as compositing, pixel bending, etc. A long-time Nikon shooter, she enjoys using macro and speciality lenses with her D200.

Lori graduated with a Self Designed degree in Art and Psychology from the University of Maine at Farmington.
